Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Students in my third-grade class begin school with varied abilities. Math and reading can be challenging to an average student and may seem impossible to a student functioning below grade level. My students work in small math and reading groups and could benefit greatly from games and materials to allow groups to work independently as well as with a teacher.

The more that you read, the more things you will know, the more you learn, the more places you'll go.

-Dr. Seuss

My students are hard working third graders, with a powerful drive to succeed. They have varied abilities and need different levels of support to achieve their goals. My school has an enrollment of 671 students from PreK through sixth grade. We have a diverse population with a large percentage of English language learners and special education students. The majority of our students are from low socioeconomic backgrounds.

My Project

My students benefit from materials that can be reused and distributed throughout the curriculum. Laminating materials makes it possible to save our materials for future use. Laminated materials can be utilized with dry erase markers or made into posters.

Technology in the classroom provides students the chance to learn and stay up to date with our changing world.

Our ELA curriculum has a technology component that allows students to view specific videos on line that connect to what they are learning. For example, during our space unit, my students were required to listen to a speech from President Kennedy about the astronauts' journey to the moon. Our current computer speakers were challenging for the class to hear the speech clearly. The speakers I am asking for, would make it possible for the whole class to listen to specific components of the curriculum.
