Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Musical ability can help students rise to high levels in life, however taking private music lessons is a luxury that my students cannot afford.

Our school has a wonderfully diverse population, including students speaking over 40 different languages.

Our school's vision is "Dream of College and Beyond" and as teachers we try to instill that vision into our students' thoughts with everything we do. College field trips are taken, information about scholarships is given, and skills needed to be successful in college are taught in every classroom.

My Project

As a music teacher, I believe it is important for every student to have access to quality music resources. Since the students do not have access to private teachers, I have purchased electronic keyboards for group piano instruction. The batteries given through Donors Choose will allow us to power those keyboards so that the students may learn basic piano skills. The Cd's will allow students to take home practice Cd's recorded by myself to increase their musical abilities.

Participation in musical activities has been shown to increase spatial reasoning, discipline, and confidence in students.

Every semester, many students indicate they would like to learn piano on a survey. Through my group piano classes, students will be provided an opportunity that they otherwise would not have been given. We could have the next Beethoven in our classes and never know it, if they do not have the opportunity to learn. Please help us to support our dream of learning to play piano.
