My Students

My students are a great group of kids. They are 9th graders and many have autism and other developmental disabilities or special learning needs. They need more than a teacher who tells them what to do; they need an adult who will listen to them and work with them on their individual needs.

In the words of Temple Grandin, "Kids have to be exposed to different things to develop.

A child’s not going to find out he likes to play a musical instrument if you never exposed him to it."

My classroom assistant and I create a positive and interactive learning environment where our kids know that they are welcome, loved, appreciated, are safe, and can succeed.

My Project

With distance learning coming into play this school year, our district went ahead of their 5-year-planned schedule to provide one-to-one laptops for all students to use during remote learning. After slowly transitioning back into the classroom, the challenge of charging laptops came into place. Devices need to be charged in order to be used and while students come to school with their chargers, we are limited to the few outlets around the classroom. Safety starts to become a concern with the multiple cords on the floor and not allowing for proper distancing when needing to still be able to use their laptops while being charged.

Having outlet strips will allow my students to plug their laptops in safely while still being able to work at their desks socially distanced.
