My Project

In recent years, BE staff members have dedicated themselves to placing social-emotional learning (SEL) at the forefront of our educational approach. While our students have been receptive to this teaching, we aim to implement a program that will take them from understanding to applying this knowledge. Our project begins with a small group of students meeting with a teacher or counselor for two to three sessions each month. They will become experts in the monthly SEL topic by listening to a read aloud or researching. The topics will be chosen based on behavioral data and staff insights and may include questions like, "How can individuals demonstrate respect for others and their surroundings?" or “What character traits make John Cena, Eli Manning, and Lionel Messi good role models?”. This phase encourages critical thinking and respectful discussions. Next, students will collaborate to create a short commercial highlighting the SEL topic which will be broadcast to the whole student body. This creative process fosters both communication and social-emotional learning.

To truly make this a school-wide initiative, all students will have the opportunity to participate in a poster contest based on the SEL theme.

This is where the poster printer becomes necessary. Winning designs will be printed and displayed throughout the school. This ongoing project will inspire students to take ownership over the SEL values and strengthen the sense of community within our school.

Through this project cycle, we hope to create a lasting impact: students will gain a deeper understanding of social-emotional concepts, students can take ownership of their own character, and develop a stronger sense of belonging. With your support, we can help our students grow emotionally, socially, and academically.

Mrs. O'Mara will only receive her materials if this project is fully funded by June 18.
