Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 7th grade Reading/Language Arts in an urban suburb. My school is very large--we have over 1100 students. Because of that, money for extras is sometimes difficult to get.

A few years ago, the 7th grade Reading/Language Arts team created a new research project for our students. Each year it evolves and gets better. Currently, every student in 7th grade will research an event, a person, a team, or a landmark of Chicago. They spend quite some time researching, and after they have gathered all the necessary information, they show the rest of us what they have learned by presenting it in some way. This year, I want my students to do a modified take on "Cows On Parade"

Each child will get a poster and cut it into a cow shape. Then they can interpret what they researched and decorate the cow. The cow will then be integrated into the presentation. The cows will then be placed all over the school--much like the cows on the streets of Chicago.

Your help will allow my students an opportunity to be creative. It will help my students challenge themselves artistically, as well as give them a new way to present the information they have learned.
