Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

The students I teach are all under-served, inner-city, minority students of many backgrounds. While most are of Hispanic descent, we serve a small population of Muslim or Middle Eastern, African American, Asian, and Anglo. Our students come from distressed socioeconomic and impoverished areas, still, they have never let this be a barrier for success. Many of our students have met standards, attained high gains and excelled at levels not expected by this population. Believe it or not, our little school is the jewel in the rough that outshines them all!

My Project

This past year and a half has been more challenging than we could all imagine. Many of my students have suffered greatly throughout the pandemic from loss of jobs and resources, loss of family members, and educational opportunities. Our suffering in seeing our families suffer from Covid or loss of a relative, including myself.

As the pandemic raged on and continues to rage on, I noticed a great deal of sadness enveloping my students, so we created books of positive quotes.

The Chromebooks helped us to create a Wall of Positivity. By the end of the year, we had created a book in Google slides with all our Positive Quotes.
