Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are in an ICT First grade classroom. In an ICT or integrated co-teaching classroom students with special needs are learning with their typically developing peers with two teachers in the classroom, a special education, and a general education teacher. Our students come to school with varying abilities, and our goal is to foster lifelong learners in a positive learning environment. At the first grade level, they are learning how to be a part of our classroom and school communities in addition to learning how to read, write, and count. Regardless of their abilities, all of our students take pride when they have worked hard to master a new skill or a self-help task on their own.

My Project

All of the items in the project will help provide a positive learning environment. They will help set routines and structure for the scholars. In a school that works with low-income students, structure and routines are key to have a successful school year.

Having a positive learning environment will inspire scholars to take risk and expand their learning.

I know, that these items aren't the only things needed in providing this sort of environment; however they will greatly aid in helping these scholars grow as students and as individuals. Each have a specific purpose in setting up the classroom so that the students are able to feel comfortable.

A timer will be used to help ensure structure in the classroom. The timer has multiple purposes, it can be used as a visual reminder for letting students know how long they have to complete assignments. It can also be used as a "cool down" method, in a sense, when a child needs a break, they can use the timer to know when to come back into the learning community.

The mailboxes will provide the students with a place to put forms for my co-teacher and I, as well as, when we send work home. The students will have a sense of ownership in having this because they know it will be a safe place to keep their things, and that they will be able to personalize it.

The 10 drawer cart will be an easy place for scholars to get materials provided from both the teachers and the school. Scholars will have one center location to get supplies. This can also be applied to the caddies, the scholars will have one caddy in each table group. The caddies will hold supplies that they would need such as pencils, markers, crayons.
