My Students

Our school is situated within the urban metropolis of Miami in Liberty City, serving students from various cultural and racial backgrounds, where 98% of them are on free and/or reduced lunch. As a student assessment coordinator, I assess students across all grade levels throughout their high school matriculation. I have the pleasure of working with a dynamic group of learners originating from 10 countries in grades 9 through 12.

Students I interact with possess unlimited capabilities, talents, and strengths that often simply take a stroke of motivation, encouragement and oftentimes incentives to boost their interests in taking their required exams!

A large percentage of my students lack positive feelings related to test taking, often due to anxiousness, feelings of failure, or sometimes just because they want to earn a "perfect score." For high school students, statewide tests determine students' success and its important that they are supported and rewarded. My students would benefit from pre- and posttest day incentives, snacks, and technology resources to motivate them when taking statewide and national assessments.

My Project

The items received will make a huge difference in my students' learning because they will provide positive reinforcement for them when taking high-stakes exams. Students will have a "boost" of energy from the chocolate and mints to awaken their senses so that they can endure until the end of the test.

Students will feel supported and rewarded for the hard work that they have endured, while achieving academic success, when gifted a gold coin or sweet treat!

I also hope to continue to support my students significant lack of technology by expanding my "lending tech library" where they will be able to check out headphones when needed or print their assignments. It is also important that I continue to keep myself and students safe during these times of the pandemic and the k95 masks will be available for students, when needed, to have to take.

My student learning outcomes is to view taking exams as the opportunity to "show what they know," rather than fear what may happen if they don't do well. Overall, I truly want them view testing as a positive entity!
