My Students

My students are at our alternative school after not achieving academic success at their base schools. With our structured and nurturing environment, and with smaller class sizes and a better teacher to student ratio, we have built a school environment where our students succeed.

Our students are able to rewrite their school stories into narratives of enjoyment, success, and empowerment.

Our small class sizes give us flexibility to take innovative field trips and construct unique and creative lessons. We are only hindered by funding issues, as we currently have no PTA or the financial support that a PTA provides.

My Project

My students have been reading The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas in a mini-elective that they chose to participate in each day. We've been reading the novel, discussing the content, and having larger discussions about race, identify, equality, and violence.

To celebrate our reading, we would love to take our students to see the movie adaptation of this award-winning novel.

In addition to seeing the film, we would be thrilled to give our students copies of the novel to keep.

Our discussions around this powerful novel have been rich. Our students are engaged with the content and have thought deeply about race, family, community, and the power of teen voice.
