My Project

My students are a great group of kids. They are 9th graders with Autism and other developmental disabilities or special learning needs. They need more than a teacher who tells them what to do, they need an adult who will listen to them and work with them on their individual needs.

In the words of Temple Grandin, "Kids have to be exposed to different things in order to develop.

A child’s not going to find out he likes to play a musical instrument if you never exposed him to it."

My classroom assistant and I create a positive and interactive learning environment where our kids know that they are welcome, they are loved, they are appreciated, they are safe and they can succeed.

We are hoping to get a variety of postcards and stamps for our staff to use to send home to our students. These postcards will be sent from teachers to students to put a positive spin on their day while we are virtual. The postcards will also be used to celebrate hard work and students following our PBIS behavior expectations.

Our students need a positive, kind note to celebrate them!

Receiving a handwritten postcard in the mail is a kind gesture that promotes literacy as well as builds the home-to-school connection.
