My Project

My 8th grade students will be reading The Pact, a true story about three young men who grow up in challenging environments but make a promise to become doctors—and keep it. This book is more than just a memoir; it's a powerful exploration of friendship, ambition, and perseverance. Many of my students face real-life obstacles similar to those described in the story, and this book gives them a mirror to see their own potential and strength. It’s an opportunity for them to engage with a story that reflects their world while challenging them to think critically and dream big.

Throughout this unit, we’ll focus on the motif of leadership.

Students will analyze how the authors demonstrate leadership through their decisions and their commitment to each other and their communities. We'll pair reading with discussions, written reflections, and a culminating project where students will connect the text to their own experiences and leadership potential. This project will not only build reading comprehension and critical thinking but also empower students to see themselves as future leaders capable of creating change.
