Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Give this project a boost!
A chain reaction of support starts with one share.
We are a new school, and in one of the poorest districts in the state. Our kids do not have money to get school materials on the first day, and the teachers are responsible for purchasing all classroom supplies. One thing our kids do have, is perseverance. They just need the materials!!
We are an "alternative High School".
Many of our kids have been through more heart ache than any one person can bear. For most of them Jefferson High School is the only place they can come to feel safety and the promise of a better life. Because of growing class sizes and a poor economy, our district lost millions in funding this year.
We service a population that is 95% Hispanic and 96% on free and reduced lunch. We strive to serve the individual needs of each student- no matter their history, successes or failures.
My Project
We want to launch a "Positive Climate Campaign". We want to post positive quotes, art and or uplifting words on every wall in the school- so visitors and the attending students, both new and old feel surrounded by positivity.
So many of our students are surrounded by negativity when they get home, they need a change in scenery. This project will help them change their mind-set about school and learning. We want students to feel safe and know their school is striving to love and support them. Currently...we have no visuals in place that help us in our efforts.
If each student contributes to this project, we hope they will feel empowered to make better choices, and carry with them the "wisdom" in the halls.
In a primarily rough socioeconomic area, we want our visitors to see how our students are leading change for the better of the community. These kids may not have money- but they have more heart than any school I have ever been a part of.
As I have noted, we are a new, poorly funded school that services kids who have not made it in "normal" high schools.
These materials will visually revamp the way the hallways look, and bring us together as a school/family. Students will have the opportunity to impact their school by posting positive messages on the walls for all to see!
