Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with middle schoolers with dreams of becoming a Pediatric doctor, a NBA star, and America’s next Top Chef. Each of my students are curious in nature and passionate about their interests, but really just want to find a friend they can count on.

Many of my students come from low income families and are faced with challenges related to living with a disability, such as Autism, ADHD, cognitive delay, and learning disabilities.

The goal in occupational therapy is to teach them the strategies he or she needs in the classroom, which will hopefully evolve as they grow to become more independent and successful.

My Project

Since September, I have been creatively building a therapy room from scratch. As an Occupational Therapist (OT) for almost 9 years, I know how important movement is in organization of the body and mind. Research shows that movement creates a strong foundation for higher level cognitive skills.

As creative as I have been, these pieces of equipment will create a more dynamic, challenging, and fun environment to help the students reach their optimal level of learning and thinking.

Help me create ways not only to support their sensory systems and organization, but also ways to help them de-stress as they transition from elementary to high school and to remember school is fun!
