Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My group of first graders are some of the most hardworking kiddos I have had. Their desire to learn motivates me each and everyday. However one aspect we are still working on is behavior and learning how to deal with conflict, disappointment, and other situations that arise in the classroom.

I know what works is noticing and acknowledging positive behaviors.

I see a notable difference when I call out good behavior. One positive behavior game we play as a whole class is earning puzzles pieces when I notice a student doing a kind act, someone helping resolve an issue, or by being safe and respectful in and out of the classroom.

I also reward my students with a puzzle piece when other staff members mention something about my class.

The ultimate goal? Earning a complete puzzle for a class party. These include slime, popcorn, fun centers, and making Rice Krispy treats. The buy-in from my class is currently at 100% and I see how working towards a shared goal is making my students have more empathy and more unity.
