Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Did you know Pop-Its are not just a fad and a fidget toy? They are also a great resource for young learners to use when adding, subtracting, blending, and spelling!

I love how my students are willing to try their best even when new concepts are difficult for them.

My class is filled with enthusiastic 5, 6, and 7 year olds who are starting their 1st grade year which is filled with so many new and rigorous concepts to learn, and skills to build.

The materials in this project will help to build on their enthusiasm by providing them with motivating supplies to engage them in their learning.

With each push and pop of the colorful bubbles, the Pop-Its, which are set up in a ten-frame, will assist them as they tackle the math concepts of adding parts together and subtracting parts from the whole. They will also help our visual and kinesthetic learners as they add sounds together to read new words, and as they separate sounds in words to spell. Teachers Pay Teachers will be a wonderful resource for me to find and print exciting projects for use with the Pop-Its. Our first concept in life science is about how animals use their structures to defend themselves and thrive. We specifically study sea turtles, and then the students experiment and add hard, smooth and/or sharp, materials to the base of the Play-Doh to build the strongest, most protective model possible! Enjoying the experience is the best way to learn!
