My Project

Each resource I am requesting—whether it be Valentine’s supplies or new books for our classroom library—has a purpose in helping them grow as readers, thinkers, and individuals who appreciate the richness of diverse voices.

This project will give my students the tools to see themselves in literature and feel connected to something larger than themselves, all while building essential skills that will serve them both academically and personally.

The Valentine's supplies are a key component in making our celebration special and engaging. By incorporating these materials, I can create a positive, inviting environment where students feel excited to learn and connect with poetry in a fun way. These supplies will be used to enhance interactive activities, such as poetry writing and group discussions, fostering a sense of community and collaboration among the students. By having these books available in our classroom library, I’m providing my students with the tools to explore and appreciate the beauty of language, rhyme, and rhythm.

These resources will directly support my students' growth in literacy and creative expression. Reading poetry gives them the opportunity to reflect on important themes such as identity, resilience, and love, which are especially poignant during a Valentine’s Day celebration.

The goal for this project is to create an engaging and culturally inclusive learning experience for my students, helping them not only celebrate Valentine’s Day in a unique way but also develop a lifelong love for poetry and literature. I want them to feel empowered by the voices of African American poets and understand the importance of diverse representation in literature.

My students curiosity about the world around them, their excitement for creative activities, and their willingness to embrace new ideas make them incredibly inspiring to work with every day.
