My Students

Our public middle school consists of a diverse group of students of different backgrounds, abilities, and talents. Each student is in one of the following talent groups: dance, vocal music, band, visual art, photography, or drama. The arts are integral to our school.

We are a community of readers, thinkers, writers, bloggers, and activists.

My students routinely read, write about, and discuss current social issues, explore their identities, and immerse themselves in a wide range of literature.

Every day, my students inspire me with their energy and creativity.

My Project

For our Shakespeare unit, we will be reading A Midsummer Night's Dream. To help excite and prepare the students and to help them contextualize the play, we will be reading and studying poetry and mythology.

Please help fill my 8th graders' backpacks with contemporary and classical poetry and engaging young adult novels inspired by world mythology.

The book list you will by supplying our classroom with includes classical texts such as Ovid's Metamorphosis and Homer's The Odyssey. Contemporary books include American Sonnets by Terrance Hayes and the Prophecy Series by Ellen Oh. All of the texts connect centuries of culture and history and reflect the diversity of this school.
