Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

I teach an incredible group of 5th and 6th grade special education students who are curious, creative, and eager to learn. While they work hard to build their reading and comprehension skills, many of them struggle with retelling stories, summarizing texts, and expressing their thoughts in writing. However, when given the chance to talk about what they’ve read, their ideas and insights shine!

This project will give my students access to a laptop, microphones, and a podcasting setup, allowing them to retell stories, discuss books, and create their own podcasts.

By turning literacy into an engaging and interactive experience, these tools will help students improve fluency, comprehension, and confidence in their communication skills.

With a dedicated podcasting station, my students will be able to:

-Retell and summarize stories in their own words, reinforcing comprehension.

-Record book discussions and character interviews, making reading more engaging.

-Build fluency and confidence by practicing speaking and listening skills.

-Develop collaboration skills by working together to create podcast episodes.

My students are resilient and determined learners who benefit from hands-on, technology-driven activities. Many of them learn best through spoken language and interactive projects, and this podcasting setup will provide a fun and meaningful way to build essential literacy skills. With your support, we can give them the tools they need to succeed—not just in reading, but in finding their voice and sharing their ideas with the world!
