My Students

Our students are struggling to see that learning can go beyond the classroom. They need a method to extend their learning. Their voices must be heard!

My students are mainly Latino students who stay in their community.

They have a strong sense of what's important to them, but they need to broaden their horizons. Almost the entire school qualifies for reduced or free lunches. The student body is having a challenging time connecting who they are to the global stage they will inherit in the near future.

My Project

With the means to start a grassroots podcast, the students will begin to build on a skill set they already have a connection to -- technology. Students have set the stage for themselves with their fascination with the latest phone or tablet, but the studio equipment will open a door to the entire world from the entryway of the school. The students and teachers will host a weekly or twice monthly podcast where the students will interact with the teachers in a more intimate but still professional way, and they will be able to ask questions and learn more about each other while sharing their experience to anyone that can access on-line file sharing. The sky is the limit! Parents may also get involved, and if the podcast grows, then local city leaders or community members could also be invited to sit in and share their thoughts.

The students need to interact with the world and feel like their actions have a palpable impact beyond the brick and mortar of their school campus.

The studio set-up for a podcast will spark their existing interest and propel them onto the global stage!
