My Students

The students in my Broadcast Production class are very diverse in their backgrounds. Our school is in a rural community and our students have limited to no internet access. Most of them only have internet access through their cell phones, which can limit them from using some of the great tools only accessible to them via a connected computer. So when they are at school they get to have access to a digital world that is typically limited to their cell phone screens. They crave digital tools that allow them to enter this digital world in a way they normally cannot.

My Project

Each year I have been striving to build a bigger and better broadcast production program at our high school. So far we only have the equipment to produce video content. We will need some additional tools to add the latest component to our news network, podcasting. With the soundboard listed, students will acquire audio mixing experience. This soundboard in particular allows for content to be streamed to a computer for online distribution. It will be important to have four microphones and headphones so that students will be able to have discussions in larger groups on this podcast.

Podcasting will allow our students to acquire new skills on the Fridays that they would normally spend at home.

Our school district is on the third year of a four day school week. This podcast will be an informational podcast complete with both comedic and question and answer segments. My goal is to grant willing students an opportunity to expand their journalistic styles on a day that might be wasted otherwise. I ask that you help me in this goal to create a culture of hard work and dedication that will stick with them a lifetime.
