Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I am a third grade teacher at P.S. 157, located in Brooklyn. I am proud to say that my school has been making progress for the pass 3 years and has received an A for three straight years! Unfortunately, with the budget cuts we are unable to purchase much needed materials for our students. The families we serve are struggling financially but want to support their children.

My amazing students are having trouble writing meaningful sentences for their weekly spelling words! Why do you ask? Since they do not have dictionaries at home as a reference, they cannot find the definition of the words so I get sentences like; "Employ is my spelling word this week. or The word peculiar begins with the letter p."

With the scholastic pocket dictionaries, my students will be able to look up their spelling words to find the definitions. They are learning dictionary skills in class so this will reinforce learning through application. Their sentences will be meaningful and I will know that they can spell and understand the word

The majority of my class are English Language Learners so having this tool will help them acquire new words! Your help in purchasing these pocket dictionaries will not only help them but also their parents learn english as they assist with homework.
