This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Project
No matter what grade comes into the library, they all navigate to the stuffed animals that they lovingly call "stuffies" and "reading buddies." The younger ones love to hold reading buddies during story time so they can listen to the story, or when they get a chance to read their newly selected library book. My older students love to have the stuffies with them as they work on research or other library projects.
From PreK to 5th grade, all of my students benefit from the comfort and joy that comes with the plush animals we have in the library.
The stuffed animals that are in the library now are old and are inherited from the previous librarian. My students deserve new, clean reading buddies rather than the leftovers I found in the library's storage closet. These stuffed animals are loved by every student in the school, so it is important that I regularly replace the older ones with new, clean toys.
