"Seeing, touching, tasting, feeling, and hearing" is the best modality of learning in which most students achieve. Through "Please Tank Me Now," students will actively maintain five marine aquariums in the classroom with the live specimens and activities that the grant will supply. Objectives such as Chemistry and Physics of Marine environments, Classification, Symbiosis and Density are just a few of the National Science Standards that will be discovered through this project. I am a Marine Science and Teacher Cadet teacher at a high school of an expanding 1200 student population. We have approximately 28.7% FARM students overall in our school, yet I generally have 36% in my classes. Increasing hands-on inquiry learning such as these yields a higher success rate for all students. Materials for this project's success include: Marine Sponge Set, Marine Echinoderm Set, Sea Urchin Embryology Kit, Ocean Activity Model, Penguin Power filter Pump, Replacement Cartridge for Pump, Damsel fish, Banded coral Shrimp, and Density Box Demonstration. I am very thankful to have acquired the five tanks that I have through grant applications in the past. Now that we have relocated to a new facility, I am excited to fill them with opportunities for student high achievement. The kits will supply chemical and physical activities for the classroom lab experience. Actually maintaining the tanks will solidify the concepts of salinity and symbiosis.
