My Students

I have a diverse group of students. Their ability levels range in ability from students who struggle in school due to learning disabilities, to gifted. One common characteristic among all students is their enthusiasm for learning.

I work diligently to plan exemplary literacy lessons and activities that challenge the students, but also allow them to use their unique talents and abilities to showcase or demonstrate their depth of knowledge.

I want to motivate and inspire my students to become lifelong learners.

My Project

I work in a school in which 90% or more of the student population is eligible for free or reduced-price lunch. This statistic demonstrates that our students live in poverty. I have found that my classes tend to run out of pens, pencils, highlighters, paper, and ink pretty early in the school year. Since these are items that we use on a regular basis, I try to keep these items in stock.

When working in a school located in a low socioeconomic neighborhood, you know you will have several students whose families do not have the means to provide or replenish the necessary school supplies.

I try to have these items on hand so my students can concentrate on the class lessons instead of wasting time and energy trying to locate what they need.

Students will benefit from the pens, pencils, and highlighters as these are supplies we use on a daily basis in reading classes. The pens and pencils allow students to respond to literary questions in their reading notebooks. The highlighters are used to cite evidence. I use the ink, cardstock, and colored paper to print important notes or games, task cards, and other activities to keep the students actively engaged in their learning.
