Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

These books will continue to build and make available the print-rich classroom that I strive to create encompassing multiple genres. My goal is to create lifelong readers who will benefit from self-chosen books.

So many of my students dislike reading because it has all been focused on assigned reading and state testing.

My kids are amazing young adults who have chosen to attend an early college high school. My students are all on different reading levels with greatly varying interests. Showing my students that there are multiple types of books to pique their interest and allow them to escape into the wonderful world of a book is my dream. In my classroom, students are required to read 20 minutes a day, discuss, and record all aspects of literature. It has been so fulfilling, as a teacher, to watch them love to read and become enthusiastic about books. In an early college program, with so many added stresses, these books will not only provide life-long skills but offer them a way to escape into unknown worlds.
