This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Do you remember the first time you were so into a book and couldn't put down? Many of my students learn to read with great fluency and automaticity but then can't find any interesting chapter books to read in our class library. Please help me bring the Magic Tree House to my classroom library.

My students come from an impoverished community where instability surrounds them.

Our school is a Title 1 school which means all students qualify for free lunch and come from low-income families. Regardless of circumstances my students are eager to learn and reach their academic goals. Funding has been limited these last years and these resources will help my students reach their reading goals. As they achieve more academic milestones, they will develop a stronger sense of self and improve their self-confidence. Motivating them and helping them see their potential is my responsibility and something I really treasure.

My Project

I am requesting 1 set of Magic Tree House chapter books and 1 set of book bins for my classroom. Upgrading our library with interesting chapter books will help my students learn the value of reading for pleasure. Many times, students are told what to read and when to read it. Although this is important in direct, explicit instruction, I feel the love for reading is something students need to discover on their own. My students wouldn't only get hooked because of the exciting, vivid, descriptive language used in these mini-mysteries but they will also learn historical and scientific concepts. The collection includes the first 28 books and increases in difficulty, which is perfect to use through out the scholastic year. The book bins will help us organize our books by different genres such as fiction, non-fiction, realistic fiction, auto-biographies, or by different categories such as animals, plants, weather, etc. This will make it easier to find and return books to our library, making learning time more efficient.

With your help, my students will get the opportunity to get lost in a great book and discover the amazing pleasure reading can bring us.

By adding great descriptive mystery novels to my classroom library you will help instill the life long love for reading. The Magic Tree House will also give students a great model for writing. Learning the writing style of this favorite author will be another benefit. Thank you in advance for your support.
