Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are mainly English language learners who are new to the United States. They all come from the Caribbean, Central America, or South America. Their parents do not speak English and they are the first generation of their families to attend school in the United States.

With all the challenges of being immigrants in a new country, learning a new language and acclimating to new environments that are foreign to them, my students want to learn and thrive.

They are constantly curious and want to immerse themselves in all things American. This hunger for knowledge and curiosity is what drives me to ensure they reach their full potential and most importantly succeed!

Many students in my classroom come in saying they have difficulty completing practice assignments at home because of lack of supplies and resources. A large portion of my class receives free or reduced-price lunch because their parents are struggling to get by and settled in our country. With these challenges, I am hoping that any help provided will enable my kids to get moving in the right direction with their educational endeavors.

My Project

My students do not have a computer or printer at home. This printer will allow us to print from our one computer and will be used to print book reports, projects, and worksheets. This will enable my kids to be on the same skill and supply level as students who come from a more wealthy background. The printers available to them in our library are currently broken. My kids will receive so much use of this single printer through the school year. I will also be able to print diagnostics reports and report my class testing data from the printouts made from the printer.
