Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students want to make a difference! Many of my students are the first generation born in the United States. They do not have much in financial means but are big in heart, and they have a fantastic work ethic! They also want to help and contribute to our community and society!

They attend a public school in an ethnically diverse neighborhood.

Their parents range in age from their early 20’s to their mid-40’s and vary significantly in their education level. Many of my students and their parents speak languages other than English, with little to no fluency. There is a broad range in my students’ academic abilities, skills, and interests, yet they are very supportive of one another. These young learners are fun to be with and enjoy taking responsibility for their learning.

My Project

Computer Science is the new literacy. Today's students need to graduate with a basic knowledge of Computer Science, and it is a must for most careers. During these difficult times, my students cannot use school coding devices to use while distance learning.

Micro bits are a tiny, pocket-sized computer.

They will encourage my students to learn basic coding and programming skills to prepare them for today's tech-savvy environment. These devices are small enough to send home and facilitate coding learning opportunities.

The Micro:bit is a tiny programmable computer board that makes learning computer science skills accessible and fun. This tiny computer will allow my students to explore the world of programming and feel success as they program the easy to follow block command platform. The wonder of using a micro.bit is that it can be programmed for simple tasks for beginners or more complicated tasks for advanced users for home activities.

One of the outcomes of implementing Micro:bit is the computer science skills learned will inspire a new generation of avid game developers, super software programmers, creative website builders, critical thinkers, and problem solvers.
