My Project

My school is an urban dual-language school in one of the largest school districts in the United States. I am a bilingual teacher who teaches science, math, and Mandarin to first graders in an immersion program. Our students come from multicultural homes with poor incomes and are eager to learn. Currently, my students are choosing multisensory learning materials to study language, math, and science. For example, students use WikkiStix to build Chinese characters in language class and build shapes, numbers, and do counting in math class, etc.

My students are noticeably more engaged when they get involved in the multisensory workstations when they can choose what manipulatives they pick.
