Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I work with 20 wonderful and inquisitive Pre-Kindergarten students in a very diverse school in Brooklyn, New York. We have children from many different cultures in our class and children with many special abilities.

Our Pre-K students love to learn new things daily!

For many of these children, it is their first year in school. They are learning about themselves, others, school rules, routines, and many new concepts in various subjects. They have many opportunities to explore what kind of learner they are and learn concepts in many different ways!

My Project

Pre-K children love to engage in art activities! It is my goal to incorporate art into all subjects of learning to make learning hands-on, fun, and interesting for the children. We need enough art materials so every child can access our art center daily and learn through art.

Art is such a wonderful way to learn new concepts and express yourself!

I plan to explore multiple mediums of art with the children, teaching them new art skills while incorporating the themes we focus on in Pre-K. For example, the children will engage in collage making while learning about shapes (2D and 3D) and making 3D homes, they will draw self-portraits while learning about ourselves and others, and they will explore paint when learning about light and color. The children will use the blank books to create Pre-K memories book of their first experience in school that they can keep forever. The children will have access to make their own art using any of these materials on a daily basis to express themselves and explore their creativity.

If we have the materials we need, the children can freely do art for their own interest and expression daily at choice time and also choose to engage in guided learning art activities that support our curriculum. We would love any help you can give us! Thank you in advance!
