My Project

Art is one of the key ways that many students who do not do well academically are able to show their talents, express their feelings and feel good about their final products and themselves.

Art is a fun time for my students to explore, show their creativity and enhance their self esteem!

Many of my students who are not good at academics shine through their artwork. When students have something to look forward to in school- they want to be there and many times will do better academically.

Cardstock is a paper that I use constantly in Art. Since I only see my students for about 40 minutes every 8 days, I need to create art projects that can be completed in a short amount of time. To do this, I've found that creating a template and being able to run it off on the copy machine saves a lot of time instead of creating tracers and having my students trace them or struggle with having to draw certain things on their own- especially with my Kindergarten-2nd graders. Teaching over 100 students per day uses my supply of paper very quickly, so I'm always looking for opportunities to replenish my supply of both cardstock, construction and drawing paper.

Sharpies, construction paper and craypas (oil pastels) are also much needed in my art program and are always in short supply. My yearly school budget comes out to less than $1/student which doesn't allow me to purchase a lot for my art program. In addition, a lot of my students come from low income households where they don't have access to a lot of school supplies.

Art can truly enhance all of my students wellness and self-esteem, as well as possibly boosting them academically too!
