Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Since COVID-19, there has been a real interest among the students when it comes to learning about viruses and other organisms that are too small to see. I believe it because the pandemic hit our area quite hard, and most of our students were impacted in some way. Now, they want to understand more about the unseen world. A real life-changing experience can make a student take an interest in science.

Although viruses are too small to see under a classroom microscope, there is a whole world of single-cell motile organisms that fascinate teenagers when they see movement on a slide while looking in a microscope.

Suddenly, they want to know about paramecium, volvoxes, amoebas, diatoms, and other wonders that share the world with them without their knowledge.

This year, I would really like to put more of an emphasis on the invisible world. I tell them in order to hook their attention," When swimming in a lake, river, or ocean, do you really know whom you are swimming with?"

The Celestron microscope is a powerful tool that will make this goal achievable. It is an LCD microscope with a digital zoom up to 1600x, includes a camera, and interfaces with laptops, TVs, and projectors. This will allow me to display the images on our large screen in real-time and save photos for the whole class to view. Photos can be used later for projects and displays in the classroom. I hope you will consider this project when deciding to donate. Those who donate will receive digital photos from our slides.
