My Students

ETK is short for Extended Transitional Kindergarten. We have 24 four year olds in our class. Our students are from a lower socio-economic area. Research has conclusively demonstrated that children's social class is one of the most significant predictors of their educational success. In addition, it is increasingly apparent that performance gaps by social class take root in the earliest years os children's lives and fail to narrow in the years that follow. In other words, children that start behind stay behind.

I intend to do my best to break the cycle.

Our program is a rich play-based curriculum. Children role-play in our different dramatic play areas, develop fine motor skills in our manipulative areas, and master gross motor skills with our outdoor equipment and tricycles.

My Project

My current laptop is from 2005 and moves as slow as a turtle. It is so out-of-date that there are programs and learning accessories that I could use to enhance my distant learning lessons but are not compatible with my laptop. It is constantly freezing and running idle. I have to start it up a half an hour before my Zoom meeting starts because it takes so long to get going. Teaching is my passion and not being able to be in my classroom makes me feel like I am so limited in my ability to really reach my preschoolers in an enriching way. Then I have to contend with a very slow and ancient laptop to boot. Having a new laptop could help me deliver my very creative distant learning lesson plans with ease and confidence.
