Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

Low income students at a bilingual school who are struggling with vocabulary and grammar would appreciate your help.

I am currently a first grade teacher at a bilingual school. The majority of children in my class are English Language Learners who come from low income immigrant families. These children are very bright, unfortunately they are having a very hard time with grasping new vocabulary words, grammar, and sentence structure due to the fact that they are struggling to learn a new language. Due to the recent budget cuts our school has lost about 500,000 dollars; these cuts have drastically reduced the amount of money available for supplies needed by my students. I used the journals which I am requesting during the past school year and found them to be very beneficial to my students.

I am requesting 30 correct the sentence daily journals and vocabulary journals . The vocabulary journal provides space for students to record new vocabulary words along with their meanings and gives them the opportunity to draw a picture and write a sentence using the word. This is a very beneficial resource for children who are currently trying to learn a new language. The correct the sentence journal gives students the opportunity to practice revising sentences, which is a crucial skill necessary for them to revise and edit their work.

Your help will ensure that my students have access to materials which they would otherwise never be able to afford. It will help them to have a place to record new words learned and an opportunity to practice editing skills which will greatly improve their writing. I feel that this is important for my students because it is crucial for them to learn these things early on in their education. With your help their future academic success will be ensured.
