Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

This school year, 2021-2022, I really want to take the approach of "Getting Things Done."

I am currently teaching High School Special Education Grades 7-12 and my class consists of 6 students who are in their teens and have a classification of Autism.

These kids come into school every day with a smile on their face, ready to learn. Their resiliency and their determination to learn is what motivates me everyday. They come from all different corners of this city and my kids are AWESOME! Really no other way to say it.

Our class is an entirely new class to our school this year and I want to make them proud of their class and their school environment. I want my scholars to feel comfortable and safe in our room and once they see the level of support paired with meaningful intent, they will open up and flourish inside and out of the classroom. My students deserve the best that we have to offer because they expect a lot from their school staff.

My Project

Here at our school, each classroom vibes to their own individual drum beat. We love to keep our students engaged in their learning and by having these materials in our classroom, it can allow the students to enjoy learning new material and provide them a chance to celebrate their accomplishments with some melodic sounds. Inside this project are some new materials that some of our students may not be familiar with: such as the steel drum that can be used during our yoga sessions. My class, Y05, LOVES their yoga time and now, we can have each student partake and play on the drum and take turns with their peers. All of these items have a music element that my students can engage with and enjoy throughout their school day.
