My Project

Teaching students of varying needs and abilities is challenging but less so when you know what resources will help support all students' learning. Students with special needs often require and benefit from visual schedules and visual materials in general. These materials will not only help provide routine and a sense of normalcy to a child’s life during the school day but will also help them know what to expect. Providing colorful visuals will help my students remain engaged and enthusiastic about learning.

One of the most fundamental strategies for a classroom of students with autism, as well as any other special needs, is the use of visuals.

Visual supports serve two main purposes for children who have autism spectrum disorders: they help parents communicate better with their child, and they help their child communicate better with others. Please help me provide ink for our classroom printer so that my students can utilize a little “pop” of color during all learning activities.

Color-coding is a simple but very effective support that helps students organize their thinking while strengthening visual representation to aid students in internalizing their learning. These supports facilitate attention-getting; make ideas and concepts more concrete; aid in recall of verbal information; serve as effective prompts; cue desirable behavior; and ultimately facilitate increased independence in and outside of the classroom.
