My Students

Remember when you were learning to read? You were so excited to learn about all the things that were in books and loved sharing it with your family and friends. My kindergarten students are beginning to discover their love of reading. I want to create comfy reading spots for them to enjoy books.

I teach a large kindergarten class made up of 20 eager and ready to learn 5 year olds in a high poverty area of South Carolina.

My students come from a low-income, rural area of South Carolina, but are very eager to learn new things. They attend a large elementary school that houses pre-kindergarten through fifth grade.

My Project

I believe reading should be cozy! Students learning to read should have to sit in their chairs for 20 minutes while reading. I have my students sit/lay anywhere they want around the classroom as long as they are reading. These bean bag chairs would allow students more comfy reading spots around the room.

Students enjoy cuddling up with a good book.

If the students love reading time, they will learn to appreciate books more and become better readers. If they are uncomfortable, this will take away from their love of reading. I want to make reading time one of the best parts of their day! Having cozy spots to read will make this possible!
