Help me give my students the materials they need to continue to create amazing SEL journals and have a celebration to celebrate a job well done this year!
Help us with part 2 of our SEL project...The need for social-emotional learning has been growing more and more each year, and my students are not only no different... but may need it even more than others. Teaching middle school, my students have many feelings and emotions that they do not yet know how to control or even what to do with in general, but for my students, it's beyond just the everyday issues of teen pubescent years that affect them. My students are English Language learners, some also in special education, and many living in shelters and as migrants in a new foreign country/ school.
My students and I work together to learn how to control their emotions based on what they bring to school from their life experiences.
They have worked very hard this year in their SEL groups, expressing their emotions on paper and creating "emotion journals" and collages—all while learning how to write in English. We have been slowly adding to the resources we needed to accomplish this task successfully but still need a few more items. We requested two apple wireless mice to make it a little more comfortable for them while typing out their SEL journal entries. Also, we requested paper plates and towels and some snacks to have for our end of the year SEL success celebration as well as for them to use during our SEL sessions (since many of them are working on this during their lunch time and need to eat while working.)
