My Students

Frankford High School is a public high school in Philadelphia, PA. With over 1,200 students, it is one of the larger public high schools in the city of Philadelphia. The city, once one of the largest manufacturing cities in the country, has suffered economically with the loss of that manufacturing base. The school is located in an area of the city that thrived off of those factories. As those factories closed, the neighborhoods surrounding Frankford became poorer and poorer. To the point that practically the entire student population of Frankford High School comes from homes well below the national poverty level. Despite the obstacles presented from all of this, Frankford has managed to maintain a high caliber Varsity Football program. Maintaining the proper equipment for the football team has become increasingly difficult for our school.

My Project

With over 100 seasons of football and winning 29 Public League Championships in the Philadelphia Public League, maintaining a high quality Varsity Program with limited resources is a challenge. Adding new shoulder pads will greatly effect our student athletes safety while playing games and practicing.

Raising money to buy the equipment necessary for the safety of the players has become very difficult, as any fund raising activities are greatly hampered by the lack of disposable income of the families of our students.

The money that could be generously donated through this effort will be used to replace shoulder, knee, and hip pads that will help players to compete and perform in a safer environment. The cost of such equipment will run between $100-200 per player. I would ask donors to think of just helping one player, and if I can get 40 people to help just one player with these pads, we will have helped our entire team. Thank you so much for allowing us this unique opportunity to help our student-athletes.
