My Students

I teach in a Title 1 school in East Cleveland where 100% of our students receive free breakfast and lunch. All of my kids come from low income neighborhoods and are often faced with challenges both in and out of the classroom. Despite the challenges they face, my students deserve to have a classroom that has all of the tools and materials they need to succeed. This year, I will be piloting the Kinder enrichment class at my school. Because my room was originally an office space, I am setting up my room from scratch. We are in need of many classroom materials and supplies.

My Project

It is often said that play is the work of children. Students can apply and explore things they have learned when they have the opportunity to play with their peers. I want to provide my students with time and materials to play with one another to reinforce both their learning and social emotional skills.

"Play is the highest form of research."

By providing my students with these blocks, manipulatives, and games, they will be able to interact with one another and explore together on a much deeper level during creative play. Students will be able to learn basic engineering skills by building and designing marble mazes, shapes by comparing blocks, and what it means to share and take turns while playing board games.
