My Students

"Children learn as they play. Most importantly in play children learn how to learn." O. Fred Donaldson We believe this to be true and that is why this project is so important to us. Learning through play is as important as learning through books.

My students attend a Title 1 school in a high needs area where they receive free breakfast and lunch each day.

The school is a K-5 elementary school with self contained special education classes, integrated co-teaching classes, and general education classrooms. We feel that children learn as much through play as they do in a classroom. While playing children experiment with creativity and imagination while learning how to interact socially. Children learn conflict resolution through play. These are all necessary life long skills. By funding this project you will be helping all of the students at this school develop intellectually, emotionally, and socially through play. Children develop reasoning and problem solving skills through play. As a result of play, children achieve a feeling of fun as well as pleasure and a sense of accomplishment, which leads to self confidence and feelings of self worth. All things we want for our students.

My Project

"€œPlay is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood."€ - Fred Rogers When our children go to lunch they are in the cafeteria for 50 minutes. Once they are done eating there is not much else for them to do. By funding this project you will be providing much needed games and materials to engage these children and foster the value of play.

Donating to this project will not only improve one classroom, but an entire school!

By donating to this project the students at this school will enjoy the benefits of play. Play serves so many valuable purposes that are so often overlooked. According to research, play is a means by which children develop their physical, intellectual, emotional, social, and moral capacities. Play is a means of creating and preserving friendships.
