My Students

Kindergarten was once a place where children went to socialize and learn through play experiences. Today's kindergarten looks very different, with an emphasis on academic achievement and very few opportunities for play. For some students, this can lead to boredom and behavior problems.

My students come from a wide range of backgrounds.

Some come to school with vast experiences and background knowledge, while others have had very limited educational experiences before entering kindergarten, and are unprepared for the high expectations of students entering school. However, all of these students combined are what makes my job the best job in the world! These little ones come to school excited and ready to learn.

My Project

If funded, my class will receive a Grocery Marketplace stand, toy cash register, grocery store shopping items, a veterinarian play set, restaurant and pizza shop dramatic play items to incorporate into our dramatic play center. These items will give students an opportunity to learn through play while developing their imagination through creative problem-solving skills, and language and social skills using real-world experiences. Students will learn and practice the curriculum standards through play, while not even realizing that they are learning in the process!

This project will promote a learning environment that is developmentally appropriate for students while giving them opportunities to learn through play activities throughout the school day.

Many students find the academic portion of school to be boring and the high demands of today's curriculum standards can sometimes take precedence which can cause students to dread going to school. With a little more play, my students will be begging to come to school each day!
