Playground Supplies For Students On The Autism Spectrum

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our students love to play and be social inside the classroom and outside on the playground!

My students are all diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder and are in the second and third grade.

During recess, all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade run to our playground to play and socialize. Unfortunately, there are no materials for our students to use. There is no slide or jungle gym. There are no balls, hoops, or nets. As a result, the students often engage in inappropriate behaviors due to the lack of resources on the playground.

My Project

Students on the Autism Spectrum struggle with social and play skills. Balls, hoops, parachutes, and other materials will allow all of our students to increase their play and social skills as they learn to interact with these new materials and their peers appropriately. Students can hold the handles of the parachutes while they engage with their peers. Students can share and pass balls as they take turns shooting hoops. Play skills are vital to child development as students learn to cooperate and engage with their fellow peers. Through the use of these resources, students will increase the opportunities they have to interact in an appropriate manner with their peers during recess.

Your donations will not only improve the lives and social skills of my students but they will improve the social and play skills of all the students diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder in the school.
