Help Ms. Maldonado

I am a kindergarten teacher at an Elementary school which currently serves about 450 students, half of which are English Language Learners. We also service students from Project Alegria, which is a home for families with aides.

I am writing to ask for help in funding money for playground equipment to be used by all pre-school and kindergarten children. Currently there are 100 students in grades pre-k and kindergarten and they would all really benefit from some new equipment. The equipment I am asking for would expose them to different activities and help them develop their motor skills. It would develop their balance and coordination skills and also help with muscle control.

The kindergarten yard at our school leaves much to be desired for. We own 3 old metal tricycles, 3 pairs of steppers, and 3 old hula hoops donated by a parent who didn't want them anymore. If funded I would like to purchase equipment so that the students have materials to play with instead of running around. This would end a lot of problems that arise from having all the students wanting to play with the same equipment.

I believe it is necessary for my students to have this experience because the majority come from low income families, and they are never exposed to this kind of structured play. You will make it possible for my students to have a good, fun, safe time while during their recess and lunch.
