This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have the smartest, most creative transitional kindergarten students on the planet. And I can't wait to meet them! Unfortunately, our first interactions are on a screen. My school is beginning the year with a distance learning model due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

More than half of our student population qualifies for free or reduced-price lunch.

Most families work outside the home as essential workers. They are hardworking people trying their best to provide all their children need to be successful in school. Yet, supporting learning at home can be challenging for working parents. It is a difficult time for our families. Extra money to purchase educational supplies is not available for many families.

Help me to meet the developmental needs of my students while providing a safe socially distanced learning environment. Recreating hands-on learning experiences while adhering to safety guidelines regarding Covid is challenging. Young children need developmentally appropriate manipulatives and materials to support literacy and the development of mathematical reasoning.

The pandemic has strained school budgets. We, teachers, are struggling to provide for the basic educational needs of our students. Please help.

My Project

TK students learn through play. With the market supplies and business dramatic play items students with the build, maintain, and use a fully functioning student store. The store will be used to support good behavior and the value of saving.

During the school day, the centers can provide dramatic play options to run and shop at the market.

On Friday, the students become a full-functioning store to purchase prizes with the currency kids have earned throughout the week. Prizes will have designated values. Students can spend or choose to save for a prize of more value. Students earn currency by completing tasks, making good behavior choices, and being of service to others.
