My Students

The pandemic really shook things up in the educational world! To say teachers and students have had to pull out all the stops, with limited resources, closures and overall instability, is just the tip of the iceberg. I, myself, made the transition from Physical Education teacher to 12:1 kindergarten teacher, mid-year and with no supplies. I got by on the help from my co-workers who generously shared what they had with me.

All of my students are from low-income households and live in small, cramped, and crowded spaces, and that's if they're not living in a temporary housing unit or shelters; I cannot ask or expect them to come in with all of the supplies they need.

Pencils, crayons and book bags are definitely on the back burner behind food and clothing.

I need to make sure my classroom is stocked with school supplies, snacks, and basic necessities to make sure my special needs students have everything they need to have an amazing and safe educational experience as they start their journeys through school.

My Project

Markers, play-doh, letters and numbers! If that supply list doesn't scream kindergarten, I'm not sure what will! My classroom needs bins to store my students manipulatives and centers in.

One center that is a huge hit with any 5 year old, is Play-Doh!

My students are learning letters, sound and numbers. Letting them explore learning with cookie cutters and Play-Doh is a great way to mesh together learning, fine motor and tactile skills! Also on my list, is dry-erase markers. Seems like no matter how many I give out, there's never any left!
