Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students walk into our classroom every day happy and excited for what is in store for them that day. My students have special needs and despite their disabilities they always try to shine with their abilities! It doesn't take a special kind of teacher to teach special kids... my special students make be a better teacher! I start every morning with a high five and say " High five means I love you!" Building a positive community in a classroom of different kids!

I teach at a Title I school in Central Florida where 100 percent of our students receive free breakfast and free lunch.

I have some students that receive backpacks of food on the weekend and school supplies at the beginning of the school. I teach a class filled with students who have many different disabilities such as Downs Syndrome, Autism, non-verbal, and developmentally delayed. Despite so many hardships, my students are happy and enjoy trying to learn new skills.

My Project

The best way for my young students with various disabilities to learn is through play. I believe that the materials I am requesting such as new games, puzzles, and toys will help build our themed learning centers through structured and purposeful play. Fine motor skills would improve with the feed the animals set. Puzzles are wonderful for problem solving skills. I believe my students would learn many skills and new ideas with these new materials. I teach my pre-K students with special needs through monthly themes. Having new materials to rotate through the daily activities will surely keep them motivated to learn!
