Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Our school is an alternative school and many of our students have experienced adverse childhood experiences. The goal for this project is for our students to enjoy down time in a positive way instead of getting in trouble. Many of these students do not know each other outside of school so it would be beneficial for them to share a safe space that will enhance their sense of belonging and building a community. Our school has limited resources and during lunch students are not allowed to leave campus like other traditional high schools.

My students are special because although there have been many experiences that they have had to deal with they are little kids stuck in teenage bodies and because of their lived experiences they have had no option other than to toughen up for society.

My goal is to create a space where students can feel safe, enjoy their down time and worry less about their life outside of school.
