This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

The specific items I'm requesting will make a profound difference in my students' learning by providing them with the tools they need to build essential communication skills in a meaningful and enjoyable way.

As a Speech-Language Pathologist serving over 50 students across different schools—many of whom are children with individualized education plans (IEPs) and face significant barriers to resources—I am dedicated to helping students with autism, learning disabilities, speech delays, and other communication challenges, and the requested materials are critical in creating an engaging and effective therapeutic environment, enabling me to provide the personalized support each student needs to overcome their unique obstacles and reach their full potential.

My goal for this project is to help every student, regardless of their circumstances, strengthen their communication abilities. The requested items such as farm animal toys for vocabulary and sentence construction, and turn-taking games for improving pragmatic language, will allow me to implement play-based therapy—a proven, evidence-based method that fosters language development, joint attention, and social interaction. By incorporating play into therapy, students will experience more joy in their learning, making it easier for them to engage, grow, and overcome their speech and language challenges. These resources will not only support their academic and social growth but will be used year after year, impacting generations of students and helping them achieve their full potential. What makes my students truly special is their resilience, curiosity, and determination to succeed despite the challenges they face. With these resources, I can provide them with the personalized, dynamic therapy they deserve, setting them on a path toward brighter futures.
