My Students

My students are energetic, creative, and too cool for words (my description; not theirs). They are eager to learn and excited to return to school for some normalcy in instruction and learning. With this extended time out of class, they are looking forward to socializing with friends and teachers :-) and navigating a new normal with curiosity. Although many of my students read on or above grade level, they come from various socioeconomic backgrounds, and present gaps in learning that were heightened by the challenges brought on by this pandemic.

We have discovered that during these challenging times faced with COVID- 19, and social unrest, students face the possibility of having distance learning extended.

With this uncertainty looming over the start of a new academic year, it's important that my lessons and activities reflect the thoughtfulness, creativity and engagement of traditional instruction in the classroom. Both my students and I would benefit from a variety of classroom resources to engage them in learning and help increase their success.

My Project

Distance or digital learning has certainly changed the playing field for effective and engaging instruction. Never could I have imagined teaching would look like this for an extended period of time. As this is the cards we have been dealt, it is critical that my students receive the same opportunities to learn and grow, despite the challenges distance learning brings.

I will continue to rise to the occasion, challenging not only myself but my students.

As I look forward to teaching a new set of seventh grade students, I want to ensure that I have the necessary resources to support my instruction remotely. These resources will allow me to function as though my students and I are in the same space with easy transitioning back into the classroom when possible. With the materials requested in this project, I can create bold, colorful, and engaging anchor charts that support new learning, while reviewing past material to remediate. Students can also share prior knowledge as I record their thinking for sharing with other students.

While nothing completely replaces face to face classroom instruction, it is my hope that these materials will provide essential and substantial support to facilitate a positive learning environment.
